When Google released the first version of its mobile operating system back in 2007, a lot of people said it was going to be huge. Fast forward five years, and Android handsets truly are huge—literally. More and more models are being released with top-notch features and monstrous displays. One such model is the Huawei Ascend D Quad XL, which is one of the biggest and most impressive Android phones ever released to date.
The Ascend D Quad XL’s claim to fame is its use of a 4.5-inch HD touchscreen display and a 1.5GHz quad-core processor made by Huawei itself. It is fast and powerful and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich by default. It also boasts a number of high-end hardware features like an 8MP main camera with dual-LED flash, support for HSDPA data, and a 2,500mAh standard battery.
While it’s certainly impressive, it also comes with a few noticeable flaws. It has only 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, plus it doesn’t ship with the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. It also lacks both NFC and 4G LTE, which could be a deal breaker especially for those who like to stay on the bleeding edge of mobile technology.
All in all, it’s a well-equipped phone with a few drawbacks that hardly take anything away from the positive overall experience. It just might end up being your best phone ever if you’re inclined to give Huawei a try.
