About Koodo Mobile

Koodo Mobile is a cell phone service provider geared toward a younger audience. A Telus-owned sub-brand, Koodo Mobile opened its doors on March 17th, 2008 and offers three packages designed for people who just want to talk and text. Plans start at $25 per month. A build-your-own-plan is also offered. Koodo spokesmen point out that they are offering "Fat Free" plans designed to provide, and charge for, only those services that customers want.

With an 80's themed marketing campaign, Koodo Mobile offers customers innovative features, including per second billing and "Koodo Tab", which is a way for customers to put up to $150 of the cost of a new phone on a tab, and Koodo will apply ten percent of the customer's monthly bill toward paying off the cost of the device. Further, once the device is paid off, "Koodo Tab" then contributes points earmarked for the purchase of future phone purchases.

Koodo Mobile offers nationwide service and is in part designed to compete with Fido, another youth-oriented brand. A prior attempt by Telus to appeal to young people came in the form of the ill-fated Amp'd Mobile, which failed when its US counterpart filed for bankruptcy.
