Sitting firmly between entry-level devices and the mid-tier market, the Ace II X is a solid, though far from cutting-edge, mobile device. It features a 4-inch screen at 480-by-800 pixels, a 1-GHz processor, 4GB of storage and Android Jelly Bean. Support for lower bands of 4G LTE service provides snappy on the go browsing as well.
Luke Johnson of TechRadar said “Not the most media savvy of devices on the market, the Ace 2 makes up for small niggles and limited features by mastering what it offers” about the device.
While the cutting-edge phones fight for dominance of the high-end market, the budget- and mid-level markets are quietly transforming as well. The Ace II X is an offers the familiar Samsung Galaxy feel in a scaled-back form.
The TFT display offers crisp text and decent contrast, the 1-GHz processor keepings things fairly fluid and 4GB of internal storage (only 2GB accessible) provides room for snapshots from the 5-megapixel camera and a few of your favorite apps. If you’re looking for more storage space, microSD card support allows you to bring your favorite movies and music along as well.
When it comes to contract phones, it is likely there are better options for your money. However, as a pay-as-you-go device, the Ace II X offers great value and performance if you are willing to overlook the quickly aging internals.
If there was a major complaint to be found about the device, it would be the lack of processing power. A single-core 1GHz processor and GPU do their best to keep the device quick and fluid. However, you will notice a few delays and stutters. Fortunately, turning off some of the eye candy in Android’s options will improve this.
Most other aspects of the phone are average for the budget market. Natasa Lomas of CNET summed up the device well when she said “It's not a great looker but it's a solid performer, giving you a route to scores of apps on Google's Android platform.”
The Good: Pay-as-you-go price, low-band HSDPA support, crisp text display and microSD card support.
The Bad: Slower performance, low internal storage capacity, cramped on-screen keyboard and plasticky case design.
