8/10
Informr score
The Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ currently has an Informr score of 8 out of 10. This score is based on our evaluation of 4 sources including reviews from users and the web's most trusted critics.

What's good

  • Bright, crisp display
  • Long battery life
  • Excellent audio output

What's bad

  • Inconsistent camera quality

As an updated version of the One Touch Idol X, reviews indicate that Alcatel once again proves that you don’t have to be a mainstream flagship phone to offer great performance. While it might not keep up with the latest devices, it certainly seems to offer plenty of power and functionality for a more affordable price than bigger competitors.

The Alcatel One Touch Idol X+ features a plastic shell with a metal frame. Reviews indicate that the result is a sturdy, tight feel that is typically seen in more premium phones. While the phone doesn’t have Gorilla Glass, it uses a similar treatment that performed well on the Idol X. While most reviews of the design of the phone are positive, Phone Arena did call the plastic case “a bit slippery to hold.”

The phone features a 5-inch 1080p IPS display. This is on par with many high end devices. Reviews note that the panel is high quality, producing great color and plenty of brightness, even in bright sunlight. Phone Arena called the display “a piece of beauty”, while Pocket Lint noted, “the screen certainly shines.”

The X+ is powered by an 8-core processor, something nearly unheard of in the mobile world. While this might lead to you believe it will run circles around most phones, it is important to note that the cores are on the slower side at 2Ghz. However, reviews indicate that the phone is plenty powerful to run games, stream HD video and perform most any task you ask of the device. Phone Arena remarked, “The interface is fluid, and the phone ran any app thrown at it.”

If you’re worried about how the 8-core processor impacts battery life, reviews indicate that you have little to worry about. Alcatel touted the power optimization of it’s 8-core processor before release and it seems that their optimizations have paid off. In it’s market, there are few devices that offer the longevity of this one. Most reviews showed battery life going toe to toe with high-tier phones in battery tests and Phone Arena estimates that a single charge is worth “about two days with average usage.”

Alcatel surprised many with the original Idol X. Now that people know what to expect, there were concerns that the X+ would live up to the hype. Perhaps Pocket Lint answers the question best when they say that the X+ “makes people stop and wonder why they are paying top dollar for the latest flagship handsets.“

The Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ is one of the best dual-SIM phones we've reviewed and a good choice for the price. It has a nice design and good features like a Full HD display and 13 Mp camera but bear in mind that the Moto G 2014 and ZTE Blade S6 are both cheaper and dual-SIM. However, in the wider s...

Those who can live with the chassis and without super-fast internet on the go can't do much wrong with a device offering decent quality. The Idol X+ is a fair offer.

When the phone is working properly it’s actually quite good, but unfortunately, the OneTouch UI is full of bugs, that sometimes causes the phone to lock up, or just requires you to force close the launcher altogether.

The Idol X+ fights back with enhanced audio output and the JBL headphones included in the price, as well as stellar call quality and dual SIM functionality, but the software part pulls it back in the murky mainstream. It runs an older version of Android, with a shady chance for update to KitKat or b...
