It’s no secret that Windows Mobile 6.5 enabled phones will begin popping out of the wood works starting next month. In fact, October 6th has been mentioned in a previous announcement as the day when we should expect the first devices to debut.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2, HTC Leo, and the Acer F1 are just some of the Windows Mobile 6.5-powered devices that we’re looking forward to seeing next month. However, aside from these three, Digitimes reports that Benjamin Tan, GCR Mobile Team Unit senior director at Microsoft China, revealed that more than 30 smartphones from 15 handset makers are scheduled to debut this year with Windows Mobile 6.5 as its OS of choice. In addition to Sony Ericsson, HTC and Acer, LG, Toshiba, and HP are the other notable players in the industry who will be releasing a Windows Mobile 6.5-powered device this year. Samsung is also one with Microsoft in their latest initiative as their current Omnia offerings will be relaunched installed with the latest Windows Mobile OS.

The report, unfortunately, failed to mention any specific phone models we can look out for next month. For what it’s worth, this just goes to show that handset makers haven’t completely given up on the Windows Mobile platform yet despite the growing popularity of other mobile OS options in the market today.
