T-Mobile hops on-board 21Mbps HSPA+ bandwagon, Nationwide coverage in 2010

Rogers is already in the record books for being the first to offer up a 21Mbps HSPA+ services in the North American region, and based on this latest report, T-Mobile is the second to do so in the region.

T-Mobile

T-Mobile USA senior vice president of engineering and operations Neville Ray disclosed this tidbit at the 4G World convention in Chicago when he stated that they already have it up and running in certain parts of Philadelphia. The nationwide roll-out will happen sometime in mid-2010 with their 4G wireless future directed towards the LTE infrastructure. Rival AT&T, for their part, is a little more conservative with their 3G aspirations as their future plans only include 7.2Mbps coverage in 2011. It’s a far cry from HSPA+, but on the flip side, it could be a more realistic target for the carrier despite it being too low of a goal over a 2 year period.

T-Mobile didn’t go into specifics as to how they’ll enable their subscribers to take advantage of this new wireless data speeds, but given that we have yet to see 21Mbps capable phones, they’ll probably go the same route as Rogers and offer up an appropriate internet stick as well. Given that their current 3G services in the US is sorely disappointing, we’re not exactly overwhelmed with their new promises, but nonetheless, we are hoping that they can do a better job this time around.
