We’ve already heard and seen a couple of Android-powered Motorola handset in the past (the Motorola Calgary, Morrison, and Sholes), but unfortunately, none of them have been able to break out their rumor status yet. Well, that may soon change as Motorola has an event scheduled to happen on Friday wherein they’ll finally unveil their official Android offerings to the public.

We still don’t know which of the previously leaked Motorola Android handsets will be showcased on the big day, but as far as Canada is concerned, Rob Bruce, president of Rogers Wireless, assures that “there will be a Motorola Android device in our portfolio in 2010.” While this may be good news for Motorola and Android aficionados in the country, we’re not exactly that optimistic of its chances of becoming the next big hit in Canada.
For the most part, the hype surrounding the debut of Android phones in the country via Rogers was just that – pure hype. The retail price of their Android offerings have plummeted from a high of $149.99 to an all-time low of just $29.99 on a 3-yr plan which says a lot of how desperate they are to move these phone out the door. We’re not sure if it’s because of the HTC brand, the Android platform or both, but it’s pretty clear that Rogers’ first Android phones didn’t live up to expectation.
Will next year’s Motorola Android phone be more of a success? It really depends on what phones will be announced by the end of the week, but this early on, we’re not expecting it to be much of a game changer in Canada.

I can’t see hour Android “didn’t live up to there expectations” I and all my friends got one the moment Roges went public with it and we all absolutely love our phones. We talk about it all the time and have converted many people from blackberry. I think Rogers dropping their price is only to keep them competative in the market place.
