HTC has just announced a new handset that aims to bring the Android platform down to the masses. Dubbed as the HTC Tattoo, this new touchscreen phone is basically a more compact and tone-down version of the HTC Magic.

Previously referred to as the HTC Click in a number of reports on the internet, this baby comes with a relatively small 2.8-inch LCD 240×320 QVGA display, 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.5mm jack, microSD card slot, and runs on a Qualcomm 528MHz MSM7225 processor supported by 256MB RAM/512MB ROM. It also boasts of GPS capabilities, quad-band GSM/EDGE, 900/2100MHz HSPA/UMTS network compatibility, and will ship with HTC Sense installed already. Consumers will also be able to either design their own or select from a variety of covers allowing them to further personalize their HTC Tattoo Android phone accordingly.
Unfortunately, the press release didn’t go as far as stating a suggested retail price for the HTC Tattoo. It was, however, revealed that it will begin shipping in Europe starting early next month and will become available in select markets thereafter. Let’s just hope that the US and Canada will be one of them.
The Tattoo’s smaller and lower resolution display is unquestionably its biggest flaw, but apart from that, it actually looks like a well stacked device. If this baby gets priced well below the $400 mark sans any carrier subsidies, there’s no doubt in our minds that this will be a big hit for HTC.
