Rogers compatible Nokia N900 rumor gets Busted, Not true

Over the weekend, we got word of the possibility that a Rogers compatible Nokia N900 might be announced soon giving us something to look forward to in the near future. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for an official statement to come out, and whip us back into reality and snap us out of our dreamy state.

BGR got an official reply from Nokia, and it’s not exactly what we were hoping to hear:

Regarding the Nokia N900, we have announced a tri-band WCDMA version that utilizes the 900/1700/2100 MHz networks. There have been no announcements regarding a version that supports the 850/1900/2100MHz bands.

The reply from Joe of Nokia in the previous report was actually modified to include the last line where the ‘forthcoming’ statement can be found. The Nokia Blog has already updated their earlier post and likewise uploaded the full correspondence between the two individuals concerned to further provide readers with a clearer picture of the whole situation. Of course, this doesn’t mean that a quad-band GSM equipped N900 isn’t coming. It just hasn’t been announced yet.

Oh well, so much for an 850/1900/2100 MHz compatible Nokia N900 hitting the US/Canada soon. Anyway, let’s just hope an equally delectable device will be unveiled at Nokia World 2009 which is set to finally begin this week.

The N900 is a great phone/computer. It always seems to me that in Canada we always get to be the last in line to get gadgets.
So I guess it’s time to go E-bay shopping for the N900.
