Mobile internet junkies looking for more speed will be pleased to know that Rogers is working hard to address your needs. Sure, 7.2Mbps maybe good enough for most people, but for some, this still isn’t fast enough for their needs. Well, then how about 21Mbps for sides?

rogers

Yes, that’s what Rogers is currently working. 21Mbps is unheard of in most countries, and when it does go live in August in the greater Toronto area, Rogers will be the first carrier to offer up such insane mobile download speeds in the whole North American region. Dubbed as HSPA+, this new high-speed wireless network will roll out to other regions thereafter and will eventually be available in majority of the areas in Canada.

Rogers will also be releasing a Mobile Internet stick as well to interested subscribers which is actually a necessity since we haven’t exactly seen or heard of any device supporting 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity in the market yet.

In related news, Rogers has entered into an agreement with MTS Allstream which aims to provide their respective subscribers with better 3.5G HSPA network services in Manitoba. In a nutshell, Rogers and MTS will work together in building an HSPA network in the region which can be used by their subscribers. Rogers, for their part, has also agreed to allow MTS Allstream subscribers exclusive use of their HSPA network when roaming other areas of Canada that are not covered by their network. This mutual agreement will no doubt prove to be beneficial for frequent mobile internet users of both carriers.

It should be noted, though, that this new Rogers-MTS Allstream agreement is still subject to approval by the appropriate regulatory body before it’s fully implemented, but other than that, we don’t see any reason why this shouldn't be good news for everyone concerned.

Rogers debuts another North American wireless network first

First in North America to super-charge its network to maximum speeds of 21 Mbps

TORONTO, July 28 /CNW/ - Rogers Wireless today announced it has begun the Canada-wide deployment of a 21 Megabits per second (Mbps) high-speed HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access Plus) wireless network, following the successful expansion and doubling of speed of its high-speed network to 7.2 Mbps last year. Starting in August, Rogers will progressively increase wireless network download speeds up to 21 Mbps in the Greater Toronto Area, and expand quickly over the coming months to other cities across the country. Rogers Wireless customers - who today already experience the fastest wireless data speeds in Canada - will experience peak wireless download speeds that are as fast as any available in the world. Rogers is the first wireless provider in North America and only the sixth carrier in the world to launch HSPA+ at peak speeds of 21 Mbps, putting Canada on top of the world in technology and innovation and once again, bringing leading-edge technologies to Canadian consumers first.
"With the exponential growth of smartphones, application stores, mobile Internet sticks and embedded laptops and netbooks, Canadians are embracing wireless data and services like never before," said Rob Bruce, President, Rogers Wireless. "The super-charged data speeds achieved with Rogers' 21 Mbps upgrade will enable us to support more customers with the most innovative mobile services well into the future, while our customers will experience mobile broadband at speeds like what they experience at home and at work."
Deploying network speeds of up to 21 Mbps launches the next evolution of Rogers' HSPA network with technology recognized as HSPA+. The 21 Mbps network capability will be complemented with the launch of a 21 Mbps capable Mobile Internet stick in the same timeframe. With its coast-to-coast HSPA network, which is proven to have the best reliability in Canada and is currently three times faster than other competing wireless networks, Rogers continues to remain at the forefront of offering customers best-in-class and first-to-market technologies and products.
