Symbian Horizon provides Free publishing of apps for Developers

Everyone’s coming out with their own app store as of late in the hopes of cashing in on the latest craze. Nokia is no exception, but they are, however, taking a different approach to lure in more developers to their side of the fence.

Symbian-Horizon

In particular, Nokia, through their Symbian Foundation, has launched the Symbian Horizon which aims to help developers get their apps published and distributed for free on the Symbian platform. Furthermore, apps can be published in multiple app stores extending its reach and availability to more than just one particular segment of the market. Aside from the Ovi Store, approved apps can also be published in the Samsung Application Store as well as AT&T’s Media Mall with other app stores to be included in the future. It sounds pretty enticing and promising ndeed. So if you’re a developer and want to give this a shot, simply register at the Symbian website to get started.

Since it’s not exactly cheap for developers to get their apps out into the market with Apple, RIM, et al. charging fees to showcase apps on their app store and sales being split between them, the introduction of Symbian Horizon is definitely most welcome as it now provides developers with an alternative where it won’t cost them a single penny to get their works published and all the profit finally goes to them. Hopefully, though, the Symbian Horizon’s selection process won’t be as stringent and inconsistent as what Apple has right now because Nokia certainly has game changer here in the making and we’d hate to see it go to waste.
