iTunes 8.2.1 puts an end to Palm Pre syncing

If you own a Palm Pre and have been enjoying the benefits of iTunes syncing with it, we highly suggest you stay clear of the new iTunes 8.2.1 release.

True, it may provide you with the necessary bug fixes to address the minor issues in iTunes, but more importantly, it also kills Palm Pre compatibility with iTunes. Palm Pre’s ability to sync with iTunes is no secret, and Apple was quick to address this issue in their latest release.

In a direct statement given to BusinessWeek, Apple officially made clear their intentions as far as iTunes 8.2.1 and the Palm Pre are concerned:

“It also disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre. As we’ve said before, newer versions of Apple’s iTunes software may no longer provide syncing functionality with unsupported digital media players.”

So, if you still want to enjoy iTunes syncing with your Palm Pre, don’t upgrade or download iTunes 8.2.1. You could also opt to wait for Palm to release a firmware update for the Palm Pre to fix this issue with iTunes, but as to when that will happen is anybody’s guess at the moment.
