GSM Catching Up With CDMA In North America

According to a recent study, the number of GSM subscribers in the Western hemisphere more than doubled, to 136 million, in the first quarter of 2005. GSM is widely used in Asia and Europe, but here in North America, it trails the competing CDMA standard. Carriers such as Rogers (Canada) and Cingular (US) use GSM, while Bell (Canada) and Verizon (USA) utilize CDMA.
