For all you number crunchers out there, this one’s for you. We’ve seen a video of the iPhone 3G S already showcasing its speed, but how fast is it really? Well, Anandtech has come out with a speed test pitting the iPhone 3G S with not only its predecessor, the iPhone 3G, but also the Palm Pre and the T-Mobile G1.

The first table below shows how each phone fares as far as launching particular apps are concerned. The clear winner in all categories is the iPhone 3G S. At a consistent second is the iPhone 3G while the Palm Pre and G1 have varying results thereafter.

The next table compares how fast each phone can open up a particular web page via WiFi. Again, the iPhone 3G S had the upper hand here as it outclassed the others by being faster to access 6 out of 9 sites. Second place is the Palm Pre with the besting the rest of the pack in opening the remaining 3 sites. Based on these results, the iPhone 3G S is actually 54% faster than the iPhone 3G and 21% faster than the Palm Pre.

Of course, there are a lot of other factors to consider in choosing which phone to get, but speed certainly is an issue to consider. As such is the case, if speed is what you’re after, you can’t go wrong with the iPhone 3G S. It appears the Apple has truly delivered on their promise in coming out with a speedier iPhone that not only beats the iPhone 3G, but also trumps its others rivals in the market today.
