Dutch manufacturer Biotronik had its SMS capable pacemaker implanted in a patient at VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam recently.
The device monitors a patient’s heart and in the event of a heart rhitm failure, the pacemaker sends out SMS messages to the attending cariologist and a special aid unit at the hospital.
Just pray your cardiologist isn’t playing a tight game of golf when the messages are sent. That would be a heart wrenching experience.
