They’re not the first ones to offer a service that lets you search the web with your moible phone, but they’re certainly the ones getting the most attention. Google today launched “Google SMS,” a mobile service available in the US. It’s designed to help cell phone users to get local business listings, dictionary definitions, product prices and more via SMS (short text messaging).
How Does It Work?
1. To use Google SMS you first need to tap in your question or “search” as a text message. (see examples)
2. Send the text message to the US shortcode 46645 (GOOGL on most phones).
3. Receive a text message (or messages) with your results, usually within a minute. Results may be labeled as “1of3″, “2of3″, etc.
4. To get Google SMS help info sent directly to your phone, send the word ‘help’ as a text message to 46645.

THERE IS A CALGARY COMPANY WHICH IS ABOUT TO LAUNCH (YELLOWPAGES) VIA SMS/GPRS, AND ITS FREE; PAID BY THE ADVERTISERS IN YOUR LOCAL TELEPHONE DIRECTORY. WHICH WILL BE VIEWABLE ON CELLULAR PHONES/PDA’S. I’LL UPDATE THIS THREAD WHEN I AM ALLOWED TO SHARE MORE. THIS IS GOING TO BE HUGE.
