HTC Lancaster Android phone to debut on AT&T

T-Mobile has enjoyed exclusivity of the Android phone in the US similar to how AT&T has exclusive rights to offer the iPhone. However, that will all soon change if this leaked slide proves to be true.

The HTC Lancaster is a new Android based mobile phone and, more importantly, is headed for an AT&T release. It packs a 2.8-inch QVGA 240×320 touchscreen display, 3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, A-GPS, tri-band EDGE, and dual-band HSDPA (850/1900MHz) connectivity.

The internal memory capacity wasn’t mentioned, but it does come with a microSD card slot for additional storage. From the looks of it, the Lancaster appears to be the QWERTY-equipped twin of the HTC Magic which set be released by T-Mobile as the myTouch 3G later this year.

The HTC Lancaster is slated for an August 3 release, but a small note indicating that AT&T is requesting a more personalized user-interface puts a cloud of doubt over whether the target release date will be met. Anyway, we’re pleased that the Android monopoly will soon come to an end in the US. We’re just wishing the same can be said about the iPhone.
