We were all hoping that the Garmin-Asus alliance would in one way or another help Garmin churn out more mobile phones in the market, and while they did manage to get us excited over the announcement of the Garmin-Asus nuvifone G60 at the start of the year, sad to say, they’ve failed to back up their words with some solid action.

Previously rumored to be out by June, the latest news indicates that Garmin-Asus won’t be releasing the nuvifone G60 in said month. It has been postponed to the 2H of 2009 with no specific month being mentioned so as not to put them into the same bind that they’re currently in now.

On the plus side, they’ve decided that it will run on Linux as opposed to Android or Windows Mobile. We can’t really say we’re excited about Linux being confirmed as its OS, but any progress regarding the nuvifone G60 is good news at the moment.

If you can recall, the nuvifone concept was first introduced way back in the early part of 2008 by Garmin. It was reintroduced a year later when Garmin joined forced with Asus, but we have yet to see it available in the market. We’re trying to be optimistic on this one and hoping that it will be released before 2009 comes to a close, but based on their track record, we won’t be completely shocked if the nuvifone G60 debuts in 2010 or even later.
