This isn’t confirmed yet, but if true, this will open up the doors for a whole new batch of consumers for the iPhone. According to USA Today, Apple and Verizon are working on an iPhone for release in 2010. This will definitely be different from the current iPhone as Verizon runs on a CDMA network as opposed to AT&T which implements a GSM network. Apart from that, specs about this new iPhone is pretty scarce at the moment, but for those who are loyal customers of Verizon or any other CDMA-based network for that matter, this news of a CDMA-based iPhone is probably good enough on its own.
From a business stand-point, the release of a CDMA iPhone will further boost the already impressive sales of the iPhone to staggering new heights, but Apple’s thinking isn’t exactly that predictable. Even now, we still can’t understand why they still continue to make the iPhone an exclusive commodity for AT&T in the US. Be that as it may, it’s hard to argue with them especially with all the success they’ve had with their little darling, the iPhone, despite all the criticisms that have been thrown their way.

My understanding was that Verizon/Alltel were converting their network to GSM/LTE so it’s possible the Verizon iPhone woud be a cdma/gsm hybrid or simply GSM
Yes thats what im hearing too, Same with Telus and Bell in Canada. I heard they too were converting over to GSM.

what is gsm?
GSM stands for global system for mobile communication, and approximately 75% of the world runs on GSM. One of the benefits of having a GSM phone is that is will work in many different countries without you having to change anything.
Other such mobile transmission technologies include CDMA and IDEN.
The new trend is toward LTE, which is not only forth generation, or 4G, but has the added benefit of allowing different carriers to work together with a common transmission platform.

my firend at verizon tells me they will be moving to LTE soon. from what I hear, it’s the next gen of wireless (capable of up to 100mb bandwidth) (we’ll see) and AT&T as well other carriers will be following suit. The fact that verizon is making the move first may be why were hearing all the chatter about an verizon iphone. Being as how LTE will work with GSM not so much that apple will produce a cdma iphone. But hey, what do I know..

Well, I will probally get the new iPhone when i get my money from modeling but is it any different from the regular iPhone that is out already i mean i get that it will be faster at loading but will you have any new apps? Will it be fatter or slimmer so will somebody tell me please??????????????
