Nokia’s smartphones, powered by Symbian, have long been popular in Europe. In the words of Tony Hallet in recent ZDNet article, “Nokia holds on to smartphone crown.” In fact, recent research says Nokia sells 48% of all smartphones in Europe.
They had a pretty good head start mind you. Val Kilmer, “The Saint”, was using the 9100 Communicator back in 97′ – “human fly..buzzz off.”
North America is another story. Here Nokia only accounts for about 1/4 of smartphone sales. They can thank PalmOne for that, who commands a 37% share.
