ZTE poised to become 5th Largest Mobile Phone Manufacturer

According to DigiTimes, 2009 might be the break-out year for ZTE as they look poised to enter the top 5 mobile phone manufacturers in the world by the end of the year. Based on the company’s performance last year being able to ship a total of 45 million phones, this is the bold prediction Taiwanese market observers has for ZTE this 2009.

Granted, of course, that they’re able to sustain their impressive performance from last year to this year, they may actually have a chance. The top three handset makers for 2008, namely Nokia, Samsung, and LG, probably have a lock on their current standing, but as far as Motorola and Sony Ericsson are concerned, they’re on shaky ground at the moment. With disappointing performance month after month, ZTE could knock either of the two out of the top five if they continue to build on their remarkable performance.

ZTE, if you still don’t know by now, is a China-based handset manufacturer that provides mobile phones for various mobile carriers across the globe such as Vodafone, T-Mobile, Telstra, and Hutchison’s 3. They’ve got some touchscreen phones as well as Windows Mobile devices as part of their collection, but most of their phones are geared at the entry-level segment of the market which is probably the reason why they’re reaping such success with their phones. ZTE, likewise, is China’s top telecommunications equipment manufacturer.

It’s still pretty early on in the year to make any hasty conclusions at the moment, but we’ll definitely keep tabs on this on-going issue to see if indeed ZTE can break into the top 5 and knock one of the more established names in the industry out of the elite group.

Could you please tell me why all mobile have such small lettering. Surely there must be millions like myself who find them difficult to text with. The numbers are usually large enough. but the letters necessary for texting are often TOO small to be read. It appears every cell phone in the world has this same problem. There is actually enough room on most cell phones to get the 3 letters enlarged. Is there any chance that this will ever be done.
