8-megapixel camera phones aren’t exactly new in this day and age, but Samsung has put a little twist into their latest 8-megapixel touting mobile phone offering, the SCH-W740 Haptic 8M.
The Haptic 8M features a 3.3-inch touchscreen display, 3.5G HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth, GPS, DMB tuner, TouchWIZ UI, and of course, an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and face tagging. We’ve heard about geo-tagging before and face recognition, but this is the first time we’re hearing about face tagging. Basically, this new feature allows you to send an SMS or call a person by directly from a capture image. It’s quite a unique feature, but only time will tell if this will indeed be the new trend that consumers will be raving about.
The Haptic 8M will be launching soon in Korea for 900,000₩ ($645), but doesn’t appear to be headed for the North American region. However, this does give us an idea of the latest innovation Samsung has up their sleeves, and we’re certainly hoping that face tagging will become available soon in one of the new Samsung phones slated to debut this year in the US and Canada.
