We’ve heard about the BlackBerry Niagara 9630 before, and it looks like we might see it go on sale in May as far as Verizon is concerned.
Based on what The Street reports, analysts have confirmed that it will indeed be debuting in May. A specific date and price, however, was not mentioned, but the news that it will be dropping in two months time is certainly most welcome. The BlackBerry Niagara 9630 is expected to feature a 3.2-megapixel camera, A-GPS, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE/HSPA and CDMA/EV-DO rev A connectivity. No WiFi on this BlackBerry, but as BGR notes in their brief hands-on review, this is the best BlackBerry as far as keyboard, speakers, screen, and size/feel are concerned.
Here’s a quick walk-through video that BGR has cooked up to get BlackBerry aficionados even more excited for this new smartphone:
We’ve also heard that Bell will also be offering the BlackBerry Niagara 9630, but we have yet to receive further details as to when this will exactly happen apart from the earlier report that it will come in Q2. Anyway, with the Verizon release confirmed in May, we might see it go on sale on Bell around the same time as well.

Any word on it coming to TELUS in the near future?
Any word lately on release dates through Bell?
yes the niagara aka the “tour” will be coming out to Telus Mobility, when? summer maybe mid-july
From what I understand (got the info on May 21st), the 9630 is set to be released on OR around July 13th–July 16th, 2009. They have changed the “Name” to TOUR as it is coinsiding with the start of U2’s Concert Tour which is set to start….. yup you guessed it….the same time. ***This is with regards to TELUS.***
I do have a question as this will be my first (I know, pathetic) blackberry……
What phone do you all think will/is better… The World phone that the Tour is replacing, the Storm or this new one… the Tour 9630?!? I need help in deciding! I need a very user friendly phone that I will be using mostly as a phone, for text messages and for Internet use (on those boring commuting days.)
IMHO, I’d wait for the 9630. Personally i couldn’t stand the storm. If texting and basic phone functionality with the odd bit of surfing are your things, then wait for the “Tour”. I tried the Storm and deactivated it in about 5hrs. Some people really like it, but most i’ve found are not fans.
Hope this helps!
Carter
Carter…. Or anyone else…..
I’ve heard some “bad” things about the Storm. Ok….. Any opinions on the Curve (World one…not sure of the #, but I think maybe 9000?) I don’t know….it’s the one that is just below the Tour. Also, I want to be able to use it for more then just some “odd surfing” online. I’ll probably use it for websites, you tube, etc. I am staying with Telus (long story) or else I would go for the iPhone. Any suggestions? Still recommend the Tour or something else?
The Curve and the Bold, in all its iterations and from whatever carrier, are very powerful devices. For what you are looking for, I think you would be extremely pleased with the power, the versitility and the ability to view videos, send, receive, modify documents and generally feel truly connected to the internet in a real and substantial way.
I am currently using a Curve from Verizon and I have had a wonderful experience with this phone. Keep in mind that using a BlackBerry to its full potential does require making a small effort regarding a learning curve. There will not always be super-cute smilely faces to guide the user. However, I can text, MMS, view YouTube, open attachments, surf the web, and much more, all with a couple clicks.
Finally, while touchscreens are all the rage, having a thoughtful, contoured full QWERTY keypad remains a tough act to beat.
Good luck in your search!
