Windows Mobile 6.5-based Samsung Omnia HD no go; Android Omnia confirmed

Something probably got lost in translation as the latest news disputes prior claims that a Windows Mobile 6.5-running Omnia HD will be released.

According to ms mobiles, Samsung has decided to stick with Symbian due to the delayed released of the new Windows Mobile OS. It seems like a valid reason, but can’t they just offer it later this year or early next year as opposed to just ditching the whole idea? Anyway, at the end of the day, it’s still their choice, not ours.

On the flipside, it was confirmed that Omnia is actually a whole line of phones from Samsung and an Android-based Omnia will be offered soon. How soon it’ll be released is anybody’s guess, but we’re going out on a limb and predicting that it’ll debut sometime in September or October later this year. As to what Samsung’s first Android phone will feature, we’ll all have to play the waiting game on this one as details are pretty scarce at the moment.
