Cydia to open Paid App Store for Jaibroken iPhones

In an unexpected new twist, Cydia has planning to open an app store that will offer paid apps. For the most part, Cydia has been a repository of free apps for jailbroken iPhones, and while it has lured a lot of owners to the jailbreaking front, it had very little to offer enterprising app developers. Now, with this latest move, Cydia can now offer developers a source of revenue especially for those innovative enough to churn out hit apps, but can’t seem to pass Apple’s rigorous approval process. Of course, one thing going against Cydia is that you’ll have to undergo the tedious process of jailbreaking your iPhone every time a new firmware update is released. However, if they can manage to come out with a very enticing collection of apps that can easily beat whatever Apple is offering over at their side of the fence, then we’re pretty optimistic of Cydia’s chances in rivaling the Apple App Store.

We also can’t discount the questionable legality of all this, but that’s a totally different can of worms we’re more than happy not to open at the moment until the Copyright Office finally hands down a verdict on the whole issue.
