It looks like Acer is taking their entry into the mobile phone biz pretty seriously as the latest buzz on the rumor mill is that they’ll be launching an app store of their own soon.
There are still no specifics about it just yet, but considering that they’ve already unveiled their new Tempo line of smartphones at the World Mobile Congress just last month, there’s no reason to doubt their intentions at the moment.
However, there’s the small issue regarding the operating system of choice used by the Tempo line, Windows Mobile. Unlike Apple, RIM and Android which run exclusive operating systems found on specific phones only, the Tempo line makes use of Windows Mobile which can be found on a variety of handsets and has an app store of its own, the Windows Mobile Catalog. So how will the Acer app store be different than what Microsoft is offering? Will the apps be exclusive to Acer phones only? How much will the apps cost?
There are so many questions hounding their plans of entering into the mobile app biz, but unfortunately, there are no clear answers at the moment. We’ll have to wait and see until their plans become more concrete as the months go by, and hopefully by then, we’ll get a better idea on what their app store is all about.
