Nokia picks LTE as 4G standard, WiMAX gets snubbed

Nokia has expressed their commitment in supporting LTE as the standard of choice for the next generation 4G networks.

This was disclosed by James Harper, Nokia senior manager of technology marketing, in a recent Portable Computer and Communications Association meeting. What’s even better is that we might even see Nokia LTE-capable phones go on sale as early as 2010. While they didn’t go into detail as to what these phones will come with, they did provide this interesting timeline as a guide to the continuing progression of mobile wireless broadband networks.

As you can see, while 2010 might be the year LTE debuts in the market, 2020-2030 is the decade when they expect it to go mainstream and fully replace 2G/3G networks. That’s still a long way to go, but the 2010 arrival is indeed something to look forward as it will definitely serve as a preview to the future of wireless connectivity.
