The Symbian Foundation has just gotten the edge over the Open Handset Alliance in terms of support as 14 new companies have pledged their allegiance to the Nokia-led movement.
Among the more notable names to recently join the Foundation are HP, Qualcoom, SanDisk and MySpace, all of which, in their own way, are recognized brands and have made a mark in the industry one way or another. They join the likes of Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG, bringing the total number of Symbian Foundation members to a solid 78.
The other 10 companies to hop on board are Atelier, Bank of America, Imagination Technologies, Gemalto, Omron Software, Mobica, Nanoradio, SiRF Technology, SESCA and VirtualLogix.
Of course, they have yet to release a product which the Open Handset Alliance has already done in the form of the Android OS. 2010 is the target year when the Symbian Foundation plans to release their first offering, and we’re hoping that given the amount of time they have on their hands, it’ll be less prone to bugs and kinks once it becomes available to the public.
