Aside from the Orb Live app, those wanting to get their fair share of TV shows while on the go with an iPhone can now get it courtesy of Softbank’s 1seg TV tuner.
This new accessory streams TV programs via WiFi to the iPhone thanks to an app provided by Softbank. Unfortunately, this only works in countries that make use of 1seg TV broadcast signals such as Japan. The other downside as DVICE notes in their short time with it, is that the app does a pretty good job of sucking the juice out of the iPhone. It will apparently drain a fully charged battery in roughly an hour’s time. Nevertheless, it seems to be a pretty decent mobile TV accessory and managed to impress the guys at DVICE despite its shortcomings.
True, while most of us will probably never get the chance to use this entertaining iPhone accessory, it does go to show that a mobile TV accessory for the iPhone can be developed provided there is a standard format to take advantage of. So when or will we see one become available in the North American region? Only time will tell.
