While we already knew about the existence of the Sony Ericsson W705, an official announcement is still the best way to validate our excitement.

So far, everything’s up to par. The 2.4-inch TFT display, a 3.2-megapixel camera with geotagging, WiFi, and Bluetooth with A2DP. Here are some additional specs to further whet your appetite:

  • Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz
  • Dual band UMTS/HSPA connectivity, 900 / 2100 MHz
  • 120MB of internal memory, plus a 4GB M2 card
  • Accelerometer for auto rotate
  • Walkman player
  • Shake control
  • Google Maps
  • Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
  • Quick YouTube access
  • Music listening time: up to 20 hours
  • GSM/GPRS talk time: up to 10 hrs
  • GSM/GPRS standby time: up to 400 hrs
  • UMTS talk time: up to 4 hours
  • UMTS standby time: up to 350 hours

In early 2009 the W705 will be available in two color variations: Luxury Silver and Passionate Red. The price, unfortunately, remains unknown.

For now, you can just add the W705 to the ever growing list of phones to watch out for in the new year.
