iPhone jailbreak enthusiasts may want to stay clear of the new Macbooks for the moment. Users have reported that the new Macbooks won’t recognize their PWNed iPhones and iPod Touches. According to Gizmodo:
It’s a very specific problem, too — the tool still runs, and users who have a pre-modified firmware created on another Mac or Windows machine are able to ‘restore’ their devices to a jailbroken state without any trouble. It’s the creation of modified firmware, which is the central purpose of the Pwnage tool, which has been axed.
While the real cause of this problem is still yet to be known, the new iTunes is considered a prime suspect. With this latest development and the discovered loop-hole in firmware 2.1, one has to wonder how much longer the jailbreak movement will live on. There are many ways you can enjoy your iPhone without having to go through the tedious process of jailbreaking. I guess the thrill of knowing you can do whatever you want with your PWNed iPhone, without restrictions, is enough for some.
