While others are setting their sights on a 4G network, HTC hasn’t given up on WiMAX. As a testament to this, HTC has released its first WiMAX-enabled handset, the T8290.
Albeit lacking a creative codename, the HTC T8290 does come with a 3.8-inch 800×480 touch screen, WiFi, Bluetooth, GSM and of course WiMAX. No word on a global release, but it is rumored to be launching in Russia pretty soon. Personally, I like what’s included in the T8290 so far, but I highly doubt that WiMAX will be a great selling point for this device since WiMAX has barely reached the popularity and usability of 3G HSDPA networks of today. Anyway, with the impending release of the HTC T8290, we’re hoping that this’ll help kick things off as far as the WiMAX industry is concerned.
