Adobe Flash for iPhone confirmed, waiting for Apple approval

The question on whether Adobe plans to make Flash available on the iPhone or not has finally been answered in an Adobe Town Hall meeting. Jens Brynildsen, a Flash expert, received confirmation from Adobe Systems Senior Director of Engineering, Paul Betlem. Brynildsen has this to report concerning the current state of Flash for the iPhone:

Upon a direct question from the audience, Paul Betlem for the first time publicly confirmed that Adobe is actively developing a Flash Player for Apple’s popular phone. He said (not direct quote) ‘My team is working on Flash on the iPhone, but it’s a closed platform.’ He noted that Apple makes all the decisions, so in other words, the ball is in Apple’s yard at this time. If Apple says yes, Adobe will have the player available in a very short time.

So, apparently, all Adobe is waiting for is the go signal from Apple. Why is Apple dragging their heels? I guess they’re really not to keen on the idea of making Flash work on Safari if you take into account the numerous online games that will become available if that ever happens. That might result in lower app sales.

Oh well, there’s nothing wrong in hoping, I suppose, but be that as it may, I don’t think Flash will have a major effect in total app sales. In fact, I think that if the iPhone does eventually support Flash technology, people will start to consider it as a serious mobile internet device.
