As a testament to keeping their loyal customers satisfied, it looks like Helio will still be launching the Ocean 2 despite the company being acquired by Virgin Mobile.
The fact that Virgin Mobile has also released their own mobile device, the Shuttle, which will take advantage of Helio’s Beacon Buddy and is a direct rival to the Ocean hasn’t hindered the company from releasing a follow-up to their signature mobile device line. Yeah, it might look like a bit of a pansy compared to the more sporty-looking Virgin Shuttle, but I guess devoted Ocean users can find some solace in its functions despite its lack of a stunning design. Some of the features you can probably expect from it are touch-sensitive controls, an optical joystick navigation system, QVGA display, 2-megapixel camera, Ev-DO, full HTML browser and A2DP support.
Unfortunately, while it has hit the FCC already, word is that it won’t be released until early 2009. I guess Virgin Mobile decided to flex some muscle on this matter so that their very own Shuttle can make a mark in the market before the Ocean 2 goes public.
