Telus shutting down Analog network

Telus is finally pulling the plug on its analog network, citing difficulties maintaining the aging network due to the lack of spare parts. It has also become impractical since only a handful of subscribers remain who are using the old network as compared to those already on the digital highway.

As shown on the map, Telus’ digital network, in orange, has ample coverage across the country with only a few spots yet to being serviced. These are areas where they’ll definitely need to improve coverage in order to appease affected subscribers.

Telus, however, won’t just leave those few loyal subscribers in the dark when they shut down the analog network. They’ll actually provide them with free digital handsets so that transitioning to the modern network won’t be that much of a hassle for them. Hopefully, they can likewise improve on coverage in the less populated mountainous regions so that no one is completely left out.

This is the big talk here in northern BC because there are areas where only a analog phone would work and there is not even suitable land line service. Telus has been pushing them to go satellite but that is not really cost efficient. There is no word on weather or not Telus plans to put in digital coverage there since they have already stated that this accounts for such a small percentage of thier business. I can see thier point, i mean parts are hard to get with anything where technology has improved. Look at the car, the older the car the harder it is to get parts for. But at the same time there is a lot of unhappy Telus customers.
