Verizon Wireless – Contract-free starting Sept. 21?

Verizon Wireless might be offering contract-free services effective September 21, 2008. This is according to an insider source and based on what was revealed, it’s an option that will be offered to those who are willing to pay the full, unsubsidized cost for a phone or for those who wish to use their own devices instead of getting it from Verizon.

Below is a list of further details concerning the upcoming offer:

  • Available to Consumer, Corporate Liable, and Employee Liable customers (excludes Federal Government customers)
  • Any current voice &/or data calling plan and equipment available
  • Customer credit checks apply
  • Device Initiation Fee and/or Activation Fee must be charged (no exceptions)
  • MTM customers are eligible to accept any applicable promotional offering but must agree with the contract term associated with the offer (i.e. they will no longer be a MTM customer)
  • Customers are not eligible for equipment discounts if they do not agree to a one or two-year minimum term
  • Corporate and employee liable customers are eligible to receive accessory discounts on month to month agreements
  • MTM customers can terminate their service at any time (effective on their next bill cycle date) without incurring an early termination fee
  • New Customers: Use Month to Month as the contract term
  • Existing Customers: Use Upgrade Reason Code UN only

If and when it does push through, subscribers will have an easier time switching mobile phones since they’re no longer tied down by a contract. Considering how Verizon is a highly regarded wireless provider based on the J.D. Power study, are you now even more tempted to hop on board the Verizon bandwagon with this new offer?

    Who is next?

Sprint or ATT are sure to follow. FINALLY those of us with multiple devices will be able to do something with them. I am curious to see what this will do to MVNO networks.

WOW.. I’ve done that twice with Sprint. last year and 2 months ago, I wanted the curve. Went in, retail store.Bought it, activated it (used the new online activation feature), and guess I’m now a month to month user. I paid full price yes, but no contract. Glad to see VZW getting onboard. LOL..
