Nokia lowers market share outlook for 3Q

Nokia has released a statement announcing that they’re reducing their outlook for their market share for this quarter. They previously said that they were expecting at status quo, but it seems that their current situation is much more serious than what they had expected.

Will this mean that they’ll be surrendering the top spot in the mobile phone industry anytime soon? I don’t think so. It just goes to show how aggressive the market and competition is nowadays with consumers having more choices and being more decisive in buying their mobile phone. Of course, it sure doesn’t help the cause of Nokia that Apple’s gaining some advantage with their iPhone, but more importantly, Nokia has to be wiser with their product choices and marketing strategies.

Will this mean cheaper handsets are in the offing? It’s possible, but not to the extent that they’ll lower it to dirt cheap prices. I do, however, expect a slow down in the production of particular model lines because as it is, certain Nokia units are competing against each other for market attention already. Anyway, this is just my two cents on the issue and I could be completely wrong.

Nokia still has the final say on these matters and with them surviving all these years, they probably know by now what it takes to stay at the top.
