Rogers rolling out New Data plans in October

With more mobile phones relying on data communication coming out in the market, data plans are fast becoming a necessity rather than just being a luxury. So, it's not at all surprising that, with the changing times, Rogers is set announce new data plans that are more enticing and within reach for more subscribers.

Come October 1st, Rogers will be offering new data plans that include a $15 for 2MB, $25 for 500MB, $30 for 1GB, $60 for 3GB, and $80 for 8GB. Likewise, a set of peace of mind protection tools will also be launched in October that will include SMS alerts, Freedom of Data and a $100 cap service charges.

SMS data alerts will basically inform subscribers before, when, and after they've emptied their data bucket for the month. Freedom of Data, meanwhile, gives users 3 months of real unlimited usage so that in the eventuality that they overuse their data plan, the overcharges will be nullified and they can adjust from then on. The $100 maximum data charge cap essentially protects subscribers from overspending on services. Regardless of your data plan, this tool assures you that your monthly bill will never be higher than $100 in excess of your regular charges. This is a welcome feature that will prevent subscribers from irresponsibly using data services to the point wherein they can no longer afford to pay for it.

On a similar note, the $30 6GB plan will be extended up until the end of September. While we're not exactly too thrilled with how Rogers is offering the Bold to the market and their seemingly standard 3-year lock-in period, these new data plans and services are nevertheless a most welcome development that will benefit subscribers at large.
