It looks like we won’t have to wait long for the Android-based handset.
If everything is true, there will be an official announcement made by HTC, Google and T-Mobile officials come September and it could be released as early as September. There’s already a video out of the supposed HTC handset, dubbed as the Dream, flaunting the Android OS. While nothing is certain yet, rumor has it that it’ll come with 3G connectivity, a 3-megapixel camera, a 5×3-inch touchscreen and a slide-out QWERTY keypad.
Other info related to the release also indicates that it is an exclusive deal, which means only T-Mobile will sell it in the US and HTC will be the only handset to run on Android this year. No word though on possible availability in Canada and other neighboring countries. Personally, I think they’re going to test the waters first in the US before branching out into other regions.
Now, to be quite honest, the whole point of the Android OS is to beat the iPhone or at least that’s the message that’s coming across; but I don’t exactly see how following Apple’s exclusivity will do that. Anyway, maybe the gathered information is mistaken in this regard so I guess it’s best to wait until the official word is out before passing any judgment on their battle plan to overthrow the iPhone.
