Instead of your usual midnight madness, Japan’s lone iPhone carrier Softbank has elected to keep the anxious waiting a bit longer on July 11th.
First in line will be well-heeled Tokyo residents. They’ll get the special treatment they’re accustomed to and can begin picking up Apple’s new 3G iPhone from Softbank’s flagship shop in the shopping district of Omotesando at 7am.
Next, at exactly 11:10am, maverick Softbank executive Masayoshi Son will make a special appearance at a third-party electronics retailer to kick off the ‘official’ launch party.
Finally, at noon, the real iPhone frenzy will kick in when the iPhone is released to the general public.
Why Softbank wants three separate launch times is anyone’s guess. Perhaps they want to confuse the skeptics who’re sure the iPhone will flop in Japan.
