Korea’s LG Electronics (LGE), one of Asia’s biggest wireless handset makers, has licensed technology from Swedish telecommunications equipment giant Ericsson.
The Korean company will develop third-generation (3G) and 2.5G handsets for multiple markets as a result of the deal, announced Thursday by Ericsson.
The agreement will allow LGE to bring new 3G handsets to market quickly without massive investment in its own research and development. The Swedish company said it will license its next-generation wireless handset technology to LGE, including component specifications, printed circuit board schematics and software.
