The wireless data services market is set to soar, according to a new report from the Yankee Group — if carriers take the necessary steps to educate their customers, deliver compelling content and offer competitive pricing plans.
While voice now accounts for more than 95 percent of wireless carriers’ revenues, analysts said, wireless data will be critical to future profits. Data services can offer an additional revenue stream from existing subscribers, help reduce churn and increase traffic volume on a carrier’s network, the report said. Data traffic is more efficient because it does not require instant transmission, and wireless data gives carriers an opportunity to strengthen their ties with existing clients, Yankee said.
