Symbian to go Open Source

symbian foundationIn a move that will probably save it hundreds of millions more in the coming years, Nokia bought off Symbian, the mobile OS company. Nokia already owns much of Symbian and paid $410 million more for the remaining shares it did not yet own. This, according to Nokia, will hasten production lines, and increase innovation. Nokia will not go at it alone but will set up a Symbian Foundation for other players like Motorola, Sony Ericsson, LG and AT&T to contribute. They expect to announce a phone using Symbian Foundation software in 2010.
