We know that Softbank, not DoCoMo or KDDI, the number two carrier in Japan, will release the iPhone 3G to the Japanese. But a new online study conducted by iSHARE suggest that the iPhone might not be a big seller in Japan. In the survey, only 9% of people between 20 and 49 say they will buy an iPhone. Now, unless Japanese teens have money for a smartphone and the older Japanese population gets interested in multi-touch and virtual keyboards, the iPhone may be destined for semi-anonymity in Japan.
Update: MacDailyNews offers its opinions on the iShare survey and its obvious flaws.

“Only 9% of people between 20 and 49 says they will buy an iPhone.” You article is titled “Japanese Don’t Like iPhone 3G”. However, …. This survey was conducted from June 5 to 6, 2008 — BEFORE the new features and new pricing for the 3G iPhone were announced.
In other words, the survey is MEANINGLESS! Did you even read the article you were commenting on?

Eric,
I assure you Brian isn’t brain-dead, an idiot or stupid. But..you’re right, the article and its title were a bit deceiving and left out some rather critical facts. I’ve updated the title to form it as a question and linked to macdailynews as you suggested. i appreciate you sharing your comments. your points were very valid and we’ll be sure to work harder in the future.
