The Japanese government may be the first government to acknowledge the addicting effect of cellphones, especially to kids. They’ begun a programme that warns parents to put a curb to WiFi-enabled cellphones.
Children and mobile phones can be a dangerous combination. Among the worries of the Japanese government are young people being tempted into committing cyber crimes, using their cellphones email function for too long and the overall bad effect of long-term cellphone overuse.
Parents probably will not go as far as confiscating cellphones or removing WiFi access. But a filtering system for Internet use on kids’ mobiles may be a good solution.
