High Technology Corporation (HTC) is planning to release the first cell phone built around Google’s Android OS later this year, according to an article from the IDG News Service.

The HTC “Dream” will be a smartphone with a large touchscreen, full QWERTY keypad, measures five inches long and three inches wide, will slide or swivel and be built entirely around the much anticipated Android operating system.

Rumors indicate that Samsung is also in the advanced stages of bringing its own Android powered device to market.

HTC and Samsung are two of more than 30 members of the Google-founded Open Handset Alliance (OHA), an organization whose mission is to accelerate innovation in mobile technology, in large part through the use of the Android OS.
