Ever wondered when search engines are going to support searches using images. I don’t mean the image search we’re all familiar with on Google, Yahoo and other search engines. These searches still use text. What Vodafone has developed is a search engine that uses a phone’s camera function to search for relevant entries. If a cell phone owner wants info on a landmark, furniture, appliance, or a beautiful lady, he only has to take a photo of it and the Otello search engine gives him back information from the World Wide Web. This is truly exciting news, but I will be surprised if it actually works the way I just described it. We’ll certainly be staying tuned to further developments.
