A study has pointed to drivers using their cellphones slows down road traffic. David Strayer, who authored the study, says that drivers using their cellphones will cost you 20 hours every year if you spend an hour a day in traffic.

The study found out that using your cellphone while driving slows you down 3 kilometers per hour on average. Drivers on the phone change lanes less often by 20 per cent and often go behind a slow car. It takes a driver on his cellphone about 3 per cent more tme to pass a traffic-logged road than a driver not using his handset.

Though the time delay can be minor, it show that drivers using their cellphones are less attentive than drivers who are not. Another study done 2005 suggests that drivers who are in the middle of a conversation are four times likely to be in an accident.
