Apple Sells 5 Million iPhones

Apple iPhone SalesWith the European release of the iPhone, Apple has reached the 5 million mark. Steve Jobs once promised he would sell ten million iPhones by the end of next year. He is halfway there, and we haven’t even seen iPhone 2.0.

The iPhone does not seem to be as popular in Europe as it is in the U.S. The Apple phone has sold 4 million units in the U.S. while Europe has only bought 1 million. The iPhone hype is also dying down. There have also been reports that the second-gen iPhone will resemble the original with some significant differences like the addition of 3G connectivity. This will lessen iPhone hype considerably. All told, selling 5 million units in six months is not bad for a mobile newbie.
