We were hoping we’d never hear this, but a 33-year-old excavator driver in Korea died after his cellphone battery exploded. Seo was found in the morning dead with his chest badly burned. Though the cellphone maker has been classified by the authorities a picture of the culprit suggests that it was a Samsung phone that killed the man. Doctors confirmed it was the exploding cellphone battery that killed Seo.
The phone, which looked like the Samsung A303 made for Helio, survived the explosion virtually in tact albeit partly melted. “We will fully cooperate with the police investigation,” an official of Samsung said. “But we believe that the battery was very unlikely to explode. Our battery is wrapped in aluminum foil, so when there is an external shock, it should just melt, not explode.”
I keep my cellphone in my pocket and found this to be the most disturbing melting battery new yet. What about you? Do you feel safe with your cellphone?
